WCLX 11 proved to be an interesting project that received lots of complements, chuckles, and high fives. This was my third year working with WCLX, the annual lindy hop swing dance exchange for Chicago celebrating its 11th year, and happened to coincide with the sudden downturn in the economy. Houses were foreclosing, people were being laid off, and the stock market dropping. Yet despite these hardships people still came out to dance.
Using the Chicago Flag colors, the design highlights the elements of the exchange: first the City of Chicago itself, second the atmosphere of the time, and third people dancing their cares away. This raised some eyebrows, but got attention and usually a satirical laugh. The event was a success, bringing dancers from all over the country, and even some international visitors.
