While working for Oberlin College as one of their web designers, we developed a rotating Flash Banner for the on-campus events page that was the default homepage for all campus computers. At first we picked events randomly or what seemed interesting; surprisingly after our involvement and many unexpected packed events, we began receiving requests for banners, often with little to no direction. This freedom of design is what ultimately led me into Graphic Design. With no prior training other than self-taught Photoshop and skills picked up while working with the other web designers, I was free to concept an idea, present to the head designer or director of the department, and post to the college community. The ability to pack an event simply by adding some creative visual elements to a 5 second ad inspired me to be more creative, and more bold with each design. After my time as a web designer for the college, I moved to Chicago to begin my career as a Graphic Designer.
